PORTRAIT OF ME; PAINTING AND PLAY
In 2022, THE PLAYGROUNDgr partnered with Caribbean Artist, Erick Picardo in leading over 50 children and their families in painting their portrait. During this workshop, children and their families were led in play, connection and new strategies for attachment. We are grateful for Picardo's partnership and support in creating this event, and are exciting to share his newest adventures in Miami.

At PORTRAIT OF ME; PAINTING AND PLAY, each attendee took home a canvas of themselves, and during, participated in a dessert and hot coco bar, art kit giveaways and one on one coaching from Picardo following the group lesson.

Moving forward, THE PLAYGROUNDgr is committed to providing art and play to our community each Winter. In 2023, THE PLAYGROUNDgr partnered with local artist Edwin Anderson and has continued this partnership into Year 3 of PORTRAIT OF ME; Painting and Play.
What's next?
THE PLAYGROUNDgr is grateful to Lake Michigan Credit Union for being PORTRAIT OF ME; Paint and Play's 2025 Premier Sponsor. We are also grateful to The Cakabakery and the Grand Rapids Art Museum for ensuring that fifty members of our community have access to free expression and play through art, sensory play and community! Each member will be invited to create a master piece of themselves, with the mentorship and leadership of local artist EDWIN ANDERSON. All will enjoy The Cakabakery cookies, hot coco and hands on time together. In addition to a take home portrait, each member will have the opportunity to enjoy a Meet and Greet, and complimentary photo with our artist.
At THE PLAYGROUNDgr we continue to strive to be an inclusive space, that mirrors our community and play experts in our community. We are thrilled to be bringing this event back for its third year on Thursday, January 2, 2025 at 3:30pm at the Grand Rapids Art Museum.
